The most recent ones are inspired by Halloween colours and the arrival of winter. I'm thinking ahead as most of my customers are in the US and I know you are all just itching to cast on for Autumn!

Custom requests are hotting up, but please keep them coming - I love custom orders! Drop me a convo at Twisted Limone if you want to request a colour (bearing in mind I am going on holiday for a week on 14 September) :)
At looooong last I think my sock knitting mojo has returned! I have some lovely self-striping balls I've been selfishly saving for myself. These balls are not my usual uniform stripes and I'm very much looking forward to seeing how they turn out. I'm just about to cast on for the first sock, so stay tuned for updates.
It is truly wonderful having this heat wave here in the UK, for once I feel as if I've had a summer!

Life has been a bit hectic recently and very up and down over the last few weeks, I've had a funeral, a 21st (not mine!) and I've been busy with both shops. I'm trying to find time for knitting, crocheting, my art work and I also want to lose myself in a really good book. There really are just not enough hours in the day - I need to win the lotto and give up work!

Below are the latest new colourways to Twisted Limone and I've added a few more earring designs to Silver Moonflowers today.

I'm off work and very much looking forward to stuffing my little face at a family barbeque later!

I've been busy today re-launching Silver Moonflowers. It has been a long time since I've made any jewellery for the shop. Recently I've become hooked on bead weaving and I've incorporated this into some of my wire earring designs. I'm super pleased with these designs - I've made a few for myself and have had nothing but compliments!

Boho inspired, these earrings look great dressed up or down. I'm wearing a pair today, very similar to the peach swirls below, and they look perfect with my peach skinny jeans, a white t-shirt and gold gladiator sandals :)

Keep checking the shop, I'm going to be adding more designs regularly each week :)
I haven't picked up the needles or crochet hook for months, so sadly my current projects remain dormant. My main focus continues to be Twisted Limone and the weekly Saturday updates. Dyeing, winding and packaging takes up much of my time during the week. There continues to be a little splurge of new colourways. I tend to be crazy with ideas during the summer months!

The inspiration behind my colours comes largely from nature, food or anything in the environment which inspires me - this could be anything from a piece of fabric or a picture in a magazine. Mostly, though, my ideas come from flowers and when anything catches my eye I snap away for future reference!
One day I will treat myself to a macro lens, but for now I'm reasonably happy with the effect I'm getting from a bog standard lens :)

I'm continuing to work on the re-launch of Silver Moonflowers, my Etsy earring shop. I'm hoping to have lots of lovely new earring designs in the next month or two. Next to knitting and crocheting, making jewellery is something I adore and is another outlet for expressing my love of colour! More about this in a future blog, along with a sneaky peak at some designs.
Some lovely sunny weather here in the UK. My pastel skinny jeans are all lined up and ready to wear and talking of pastels, two new pastel colourways have been introduced to the shop. A far cry from my usual vibrant colourways, but summer inspired these are really pretty colours and I just couldn't resist dyeing them up :)
I frequently get asked if I'm still taking custom requests, and yes I am. I no longer put custom slots up in the shop, but tend to do requests as and when I'm asked and then invoice via PayPal. Just convo me via Etsy and I'll answer as soon as I can.
I love this time of year, so pretty and colourful........white apple blossom, deep red Berberis in pink bud, frothy white Spirea, bright pink Azalea, golden Acer, a sprinkling of blue Forget-Me-Nots, Pink Oxalis with droplets of morning dew and fluffy dandelion seed heads (yes I still haven't weeded my garden!).
Is Summer finally here? Maybe, maybe not, but with all these colours around at the moment I'm definitely getting the urge to dig out my watercolour paints.
This little jam jar cosy knits up really quickly and looks very effective! I've used some of my own self-striping sock yarn, it knits up a little bit more 'funky' than it would knit up as a pair of socks, as the stripes are a bit out of sync and not perfectly ordered, but hey ho I think it looks fab!
I used to do pet portraits, and whilst this was incredibly time consuming it was something I loved to do. When my Etsy yarn shop took off in 2007 my art was temporarily put on hold. I recently stumbled across some of my pencil drawings I have scanned in a folder on my computer. All of these have been done in graphite pencil and most of them were commissioned pet portraits.

These few below were done with coloured pencil. The Christmas designs were for an animal rescue centre I was involved with at the time.

Looking at these old drawings and my obsession with Pinterest has rekindled my passion for art. Because of all my other crafty endeavours, and the success of Twisted Limone, I still don't have a great deal of spare time, but I'm squeezing in some moments each week to maintain an art journal - my 'painted thoughts'. I recently purchased a Moleskine art pad from Amazon, Ooooh these books wonderful! You can also make your own journal, which is much cheaper and there are some beautiful handmade ones out there.

However, I'll blog about my art journal in a separate post at a later date, along with some of the doodles/watercolours I've done so far. I intend to fill up lots of them, I'm bursting with ideas. Go to Pinterest and search art journaling! My Pinterest journaling folder full of ideas is here.

Happy drawing!
It's been well worth the wait, I'm so pleased with the result.

Wollmeise yarn is such a joy to knit with and produces such wonderful stitch definition. This cable pattern is one I found in an old stitch book. I love the stitch so much I decided to create a pattern with it. The beauty of this cable pattern is that although it is an 16 row pattern repeat, only 3 of the rows are cabling, the rest are knit and purl - so easy to execute and memorise.

The sock pattern itself is toe up with a simple wrap and turn heel. Aimed at the intermediate knitter with experience of cabling. I've called it 'Iona', which is a small island off the western coast of Scotland - a island renowned for its tranquility and natural beauty.
Swoon. . . . . I just adore this Cath Kidston fabric. Sadly, it seems it is not that easy to get hold of. I managed to get hold of a small piece from Ebay a few weeks ago. I'm deliberating what to make with it. . . . . I'm picturing a cushion with a red crocheted back and a lacey trim. . . . . . hmmmm.

Look at this gorgeous bag too! Sadly Cath Kidston and ASOS no longer stock it :(

However, this beautiful piece of fabric is the inspiration for a new yarn colourway, which I dyed up yesterday (5 stripes in pink, red, light blue, white and pale green). This should be in the shop in the next few weeks. Watch this space
I've just started another crochet project. I've decided to crochet a granny square blanket for my bedroom and because it is rather large this one could be a long term project! The pattern is from the Happy Flower Block Tutorial from Annie's Place blog. Whilst I absolutely adore the bright and beautiful colours in her version, my blanket calls for more muted tones for match my seaside/beach hut inspired bedroom. This tutorial is wonderful; it's really well explained and there are nice clear photographs, this is essential for a newbie crocheter like myself.

Unfortunately I was back at work last Thursday after 5 days off. . . . . . . tragic! However, 5 days off and lots of crafting was done.

My lovely crochet cushion is now finished and I am so pleased with it! It blends in wonderfully with the colour scheme in my lounge.

The cushion was made up using Half Treble Crochet stitch (UK), stitch blogged about here, a 4 mm crochet hook and the very robust Stylecraft Special DK yarn (this is needed in my house with 2 dogs!). I'm not usually a fan of acrylic yarn, but the colours in this range are to die for AND this yarn is really quite nice to work with. Back to basics. Here is my favourite stitch this week. A very simple crochet stitch which is ideal for beginners. It produces a very beautifully textured and dense fabric. I can't seem to knit one project at at time, life would be so much easier if I did.

Firstly, this sock project I started way back in August 2010. I designed this pattern using a stitch pattern I found in one of the Harmony stitch dictionaries. It's knitted up using Wollmeise yarn, in the Saffran colourway - it's working out well, this yarn is great for showing stitch definition. Poorly neglected project I'm afraid, I've got second sock syndrome with this one. Need to get back in the groove.
Next up this little Fair isle baby vest. I'll blog about the pattern and yarn I'm using when it's all finished.
Once I get stuck into this it should knit up in no time, I've just got side-tracked by my recent discovery of crochet and my penchant towards cushions - I want to fill my house full of colourful cushions! I've finished my Granny Squares Cushion (more about this later) and I've now begun cushion number 2.
This one is to match the colour scheme in my lounge, which is predominantly cream and taupe but I like to add splashes of colour and brighten it up with cushions and throws. Currently these 'splashes' of colour are in a limey green, coral and mustard. The cushion I'm knitting is mainly mustard with a few thin stripes of white, green and coral. I think it will blend in quite well. I'll blog about this in more detail when I finish it. Some of the soft furnishings pictured I'm afraid are not my own doings, but rather purchases from Next. Very lazy of me, I know.
Thank you to everyone who purchased yarn in yesterday's update. There may be one ball of self-striping left, but don't forget if you want a change my variegated yarn is nice and colourful too. And don't forget the stitch markers if you want to treat yourself and they make a great little gift. More will be added over Easter.
I've been doing a lot of web surfing recently and these colours are inspired by various blogs and websites I've visited recently. Namely the Cath Kidston website, I'm loving the blue, white and red together in many of the products.
Time really flies when you're at home, it's so easy to fill a day, instead of being stuck behind a desk in front of a computer screen. I've been dyeing yarn and catching up with custom orders, so there will be a little less for me to do this weekend!

My new 5-stripe colourways, Squawk in particular, is proving to be very popular - I must admit Squawk is one of my favourites too - I'm a sucker for bright colours. There should be another two in the shop in a few weeks time.

Squawk - inspired by tropical parrot colours.

I've also wound up about 4 balls of wool in readiness for this weekend's update. Rainbow 7-stripes and a new one called Vintage Rose (more about this one and my inspiration behind it soon). Sooooo time-consuming dyeing stripes, but I'm sure anyone who knows about hand-dyed/self-striping yarn knows how difficult the process is!

I've been battling with Photoshop as well today, trying to get my head around it and working my way through several on-line tutorials. I think it's starting to click into place, I'm determined to have a lovely shiney new banner for my blog before too long.

I've also been sitting in my little workshop doing a bit of crocheting and trying to finish off my cushion. There's about another 9-12 squares left to crochet until it's big enough to fit the large cushion pad. I'm getting impatient, I doubt it will be finished this week.

I finally thought Spring had sprung recently, but what strange weather today........almost blizzard conditions with the howling wind and snow falling and the next minute bursts of beautiful sunshine. It's been like that all day. I've been beavering away in my workshop watching it swirling and twirling outside with one of my Jack Russells curled up next to me, so lovely being all cosy indoors.

Mother's Day on Sunday, well I was spoilt! I received the most beautiful orchid as well as choccies and Jo Malone perfume from my daughters. Wonderful.
It was cold, frosty and sunny, perfect running weather! I love beautiful mornings like this, so pretty. I'm very fortunate to live right next to a footpath which takes me across some lovely countryside. The photos are a bit rubbish, but I think you get the idea.

Another busy weekend been and gone. I have finished my granny squares cushion, which I now need to sew together. I expect there will be more of these to come, I really enjoyed making these little squares, I could switch off and crochet while watching television. (I actually watched the old BBC series of Pride and Prejudice, with Colin Firth, marvellous!) This was my first venture into crochet. I've been a knitter for years, but after seeing the beautiful crochet cushions and blankets on Pinterest I decided to teach myself. I now know the basics, but I'm very much looking forward to learning more!
My stitch markers are now in the shop. I really enjoy making these, I love working with beads. I've made these with sock and lace knitters in mind; they are very dainty and will fit a needle size of up to 4mm (US 6). There are just a few pictured below, the rest are in the shop. How about treating yourself on Saturday when the yarn update goes in! ;)
Well here I am. I'm still working very hard dyeing yarn for my Etsy shop and still loving every minute of it. I'm never happier than when I'm crafting, dyeing, drawing, whatever.

I've recently introduced some 5 stripe colourways to my shop. Here are a few of them........
I'm adding some of my handmade stitch markers to the shop soon, these are really pretty, Sterling Silver and made from beautiful little semi-precious stones. These dainty little markers are made for sock and lace knitters and will fit needle size up to 3.50 mm (US 4). This month has also seen the re-emergence of some of my variegated yarn and this will now be added regularly to the shop.

Apart from my semi-solid yarn, I've now pinned most of my colourways on Pinterest here for stripes and here for variegated. This website is so addictive!

While I've been absent from blogging I've taught myself to crochet, and I've become extremely addicted to knitting granny squares! I just adore all the different textures and colour combinations. More of all that to come soon.

Life is good at the moment! And Spring is on it's way, who could ask for more!
I’ve made a huge boo-boo and ordered my undyed BFL/nylon a little later than usual and sadly it didn’t arrive in time for this weekend’s dyeing. I usually buy all my undyed yarn bases as and when I need them, but I’ve learnt my lesson now, and so that this doesn’t happen again I’m keeping a surplus stock!

However, I did have a small stock of 100% Organic Merino left, which I have dyed up for part of this update. This is gorgeous, soft and bouncy yarn. If you’re heavy on your socks, and prefer extra nylon for strength, don’t forget this yarn will also make lovely gloves, hats, scarves……why not try something different ? I ALSO have some sale yarn in BFL/nylon all listed below too.

Okay, first the 100% Organic Merino, these are all variegated, although Plum Pudd does knit up into a stripey 'effect' of 1-2 rows of knitting (shown in the photo).
Just in case you're wondering.....I find my mini stripes easier to wind into skeins than my usual balls! So, don't worry, more balls next week :)

Finally two more stripy sale BFL/Nylon colourways to add but I've not yet balled them up/photographed them. These are Cranberry Juice in wide 12 row stripes and Mad Hatter, knitting up into 3 stripes each 6 rows wide (see the Sold items in my shop for both colourways). These will be added to the shop in the next day or two.

Full descriptions of all yarn is listed in the shop. Apologies this is such a ‘bitty’ update, but all should be back on track next week ;)
My intention was to blog BEFORE I updated my shop, but it seems demand calls for me updating the shop first! ;) I'm finding it soooo difficult to do both after a weekend of intensive dyeing, so many apologies, but pictured below 'WAS' this week's update! There may still be some yarn left.......however, if not, please convo me on Etsy and if there is a colourway you would really like, I will do my best to dye it up for you and reserve it in the shop for you in the next week or so.

It's looking like updates will be on a Tuesday or Wednesday - I can't set an exact day as it's usually as soon as the yarn is dry and balled up!

I also have some more Sale yarn (narrow stripes) and variegated yarn coming into the shop over the weekend, so please keep checking my shop ;)

A big hug to everyone buying my yarn :)
Well almost.....I have a few more balls to wind up and add to the shop by Friday. Anyway here's what I've just added. All in my Tangy yarn base, which is 75% Blue Faced Leicester and 25% Nylon, and all in 0.5" (1.25 cm stripes).
